Every [[Characters|character]] can select a '''Guardian''' to pair up with to form a Unit. Guardians can level up and learn skills, and have Skill Boost, Union, and Luck stats.

== Races ==
Guardians are broadly divided into the following races:

== Guardian jobs ==
Guardians are broadly divided into four job types:

and {{Skill icon|Healer}} Healer.

=== Mage ===
Mage guardians are indicated by two staves on their icon.

* Mage skills deal damage based on MATK, thus it is optimal to equip staves to boost magic damage. Daggers can also be used for a lesser boost.
* Skills are often assigned an [[Elements|Element]] and can activate when forming a pincer or being chained.
* Extended range from skills and weapons are centered on the pincered enemies.

=== Spellblade ===
Spellblade guardians are indicated by a sword and staff on their icon.

* Spellblade skills deal damage based on both ATK and MATK. Daggers provide a balanced boost to both stats, but other weapons can be equipped to prioritize either ATK or MATK.
* Skills can activate when forming a pincer or being chained.
* Extended range from skills and weapons are centered on the guardian.
Spellblade Special:
* When a Spellblade is included in the chain, the damage and healing in the chain is boosted based on the number of different job types in the same chain.
** This effect does not activate in co-op play.

=== Warrior ===
Warrior guardians are indicated by two swords on their icon.

* Warrior skills deal damage based on ATK, thus it is optimal to equip weapons such as swords, bows, spears, and katana.
* Skills only activate when they form the pincer attack.
* Extended range from skills and weapons are centered on the guardian.
Warrior Special:
* When two Warriors form a pincer, they both receive a damage boost for each consecutive turn they form a pincer. As long as the Warriors are aligned, they will receive the boost regardless if their pincer resolves or not. This boost is indicated by an orange meter over their icon and increases up to three times. The boost will reset if the Warrior does not form a pincer with another Warrior on the next turn.
** This effect does not activate in co-op play.

=== Healer ===
Healer guardians are indicated by two wands on their icon.

* Healers provide healing for the party and generally do not have damaging skills.
* The strength of Healer skills are based on MATK, thus it is optimal to equip staves to boost the amount healed.
* Skills can activate when forming a pincer or being chained.
* Healer skills generally target Units in the chain, however skills with a set range are centered on the guardian. Weapons do not extend the range of Healer skills.
* Some Healer guardians also have skills that can help the party recover from status ailments.

-You can raise the level of a Guardian by using another Guardian as an upgrade material. If the Guardian used as an upgrade material is the same as the Guardian to be upgraded, then extra experience will be granted. Leveling up Guardians unlocked better versions of existing skills and allows them to use new ones.
